This course is
designed to give the students a history of the development of the Coptic
Version of the Old Testament, a survey of the different stages of research and
publication, its manuscripts, Current state of preservation, its current, and
its use in the Coptic Church. It will briefly touch on the value that this
version contributes to our Coptic Orthodox Christian knowledge and
understanding. As far as the students
are concerned, the examinations will not depend on prior knowledge of Coptic.
For grade evaluation, the students are expected to answer multiple choice
questions, questions requiring short answers, and short essays for either the
midterm or the final examinations. The material that the students are
responsible for are the lecture notes and the assigned reading material that
will be posted for you. A project may be substituted for the final examination
only with consent of the instructor.
