    Course Title: Mental Health Awareness

    Level: Certificate 

    Course Objective: 

    Mental health has been increasingly recognised as important as physical health in causing 

    disabilities affecting all age groups. This has a serious impact not just on the individual suffering 

    but on the whole family, friends and society.

    The course is designed to deliver in-depth knowledge of how to identify potential sufferers with 

    mental heath problems, at lay person level. They could be a family member, a friend, a fellow 

    church member or a work / school /university colleague. As well, you will be taught the right 

    steps to support them.

    The course covers all age groups from toddlers to elderly. It will include a wide range of topics 

    presented by a group of psychiatrists and psychologists

    Learning Outcomes: 

    1) Understanding the importance of early recognition of psychological problems in 

    humans in different age groups

    2) Differentiating between behavioural and psychological anomalies 

    3) Clear understanding of the optimum way of dealing with such psych related issues in 

    order to avoid their worsening and/or potential future harm to the individual concerned.

    Course Structure:

    Characteristics of children from 4-8

    Characteristics of children 9-18

    Character building 1

    Character building 2

    Problems of children 4-8 years old

    Problems of preadolescent & adolescent period

    Mood disorders ( Depression / Bipolar disorder )

    Anxiety disorders ( GAD / OCD /PTSD /Impulse control /

    Somatoform+Hypochondriasis/ Stress/Dissociative Disorders)

    (Perinatal) pregnancy and labour mental health

    Personality Disorders, self harm / aggressive personalities,

    Morbid jealousy

    Eating Disorders.

    Addiction( drugs/ Alcohol / Gambling and other addictive

    disorders

    Schizophrenia and psychotic disorders

    Ageing and Dementia

    Sleep Disorder (including sleep hygiene)

    Assessment:

    - Two term exams to evaluate overall comprehension and proficiency. 

    Prerequisites:

    GCSE degree, high school diploma or equivalent. 

    Delivery Method: 

    The course will be delivered entirely online through a learning management system. All lectures 

    are delivered by Zoom. Participants will have access to recorded lecture videos, reading 

    materials, and discussion forum on the course website.

    Duration: October 2023-June 2024

    Certificate: 

    Upon successful completion of the course and passing the final exam, participants will receive 

    the TEACH Certificate in Mental Health Awareness. The certificate will only be received upon 

    completion and passing of the two term exams.
