Biographical Narrative

Dr. Azer
received his Dental degree (BDS) from the Alexandria University College of
Dentistry, Egypt in 1987. Following graduation, he completed a 1-year Internship
Program (GPR) in 1988 and practiced general dentistry at a private office as
well as at the Ministry of Health Children's Hospital in Alexandria. In 1989,
he accepted a full time teaching position as Clinical Instructor at the
Alexandria University College of Dentistry. In 1993, he obtained Master of
Science degree (MSc) in Conservative Dentistry and was appointed as Assistant
Lecturer at the Alexandria University College of Dentistry. In 1995, he
joined the Advanced Prosthodontics Residency Program at UIC, Chicago, Illinois,
where he completed Certificate of Advanced Prosthodontics as well as Master of
Science degree (MS) in Oral Sciences. In the year 2000, he returned to
Alexandria, Egypt, and accepted a full time teaching position as tenured Lecturer
in the Department of Restorative Dentistry until 2003, when he was recruited to
chair the Department of Fixed Prosthodontics at the College of Dentistry in
Beirut, Lebanon. He assumed full educational responsibilities for professional,
graduate and postgraduate students in this field for two academic years before
joining The Ohio State University College of Dentistry, Columbus, Ohio in
September 2005. Dr. Azer is currently tenured Associate Professor and course
director for Occlusion and TMD at OSU, and he serves as the Vice Chair for the
Division of Restorative and Prosthetic Dentistry. He is also a Diplomate
of the American Board of Prosthodontics and Fellow of the American
College of Prosthodontists. Dr. Azer studied the Coptic Language under mentorship of the late Mr. Maurice Abdel Messieh of Alexandria during early 1990s at the Theological School of Alexandria. He taught the Coptic language to our church congregation and youth in Alexandria, Chicago and currently in Columbus Ohio, USA.
